Online PC gaming question?

I have been usually a console gamer in the past but once I get a job for the summer I'm going to save up for my first gaming rig. And being an achievement on XBL, I was wondering what PC online communities do people use that include achievement sort of things? I'm not even sure if there is an inclusive online PC community or if there is different online things for each game.
